What do you think of when you hear the words ‘The Sun’? A G-type main sequence star comprising about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System, a red top paper in Britain, or a pair of tits? You certainly wouldn’t like to see two fat ladies on page three, but the Sun have indeed dipped their toes in to the world of online bingo.
The Sun isn’t the only paper on the bingo scene, but what better place to advertise than in a national paper (the most read no less). Perhaps other papers wouldn’t quite work out as well, with The Times being too ‘up market’ and bingo probably causes cancer according to The Daily Mail (see the Facebook group). Obviously having the daily paper as a vehicle, The Sun does use this but doesn’t do anything over the top.
A couple of chat games use the paper with the Lunchtime/Late Headlines and Topical Questions. For the headlines game, the chat host will say a headline from that days Sun and the first person to type the missing word wins. Topical Questions is not a lively debate on the day’s news but just a fact or stat from The Sun. I dare not think what the bingo players of The Sun think about the political protests in Iran.
Talking of chat hosts, a nice feature of The Sun is that you can actually see pictures of the hosts. I’m not convinced this is a good thing though. For the hosts. Ben and Nick don’t look like they could hold a conversation in the real world, Chris and Craig look more like rockers than bingo veterans and I don’t want to even pass comment on Claire. Kelly and Sophie look lovely though.
In terms of promotions, The Sun have launched a £70000 shopping voucher giveaway. Sadly, or perhaps not, this is split 3500 ways to give each new player a £20 voucher. Imagine what you can get with that folks. Other limited time promotions have included buy one get one free week, free bingo at the Fashion Club on a Tuesday, and jackpot top-up; where a whopping £2000 can be won from as little as a 10p buy in. As standard, there is also a refer a friend bonus and a sign up bonus of 100%.
The game play does not let the rest of the site down by any means, but The Sun bingo site will never be as popular as The Sun newspaper.
